Waitrose Magazine – July 2006

"At Darcy’s the welcome is warm and the menu, thanks to Australian chef Ruth Hurren, is eclectic. It is full of bold flavours influenced by Middle, as well as the Far, East. My spring roll starter was a textbook crisp shell enclosing crunchy vegetables and chunks of a beef-like meat that the menu told me was kangaroo. The main course snapper was fantastic – perfectly cooked and complemented by a smoked chilli jam. A side order of sugar snap peas with teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds worked well with the snapper, though it rather overwhelmed Stuart’s delicate sea bass wit chorizio-studded couscous and olive tapenade. Friendly service and relaxed surroundings make this a beacon on St Albans’ otherwise rather dull restaurant scene". Liz Marcy

Harden's Guide 2006

"A stylish town-centre restaurant, serving well-cooked food with an Australian influence; over its three years in operation, this lively and pleasant venue has become by far the most commented-on location in town".

Harden's Guide 2005

"Now the best restaurant in the town centre - not only does this precise reporter sing the praises of this pleasant newcomer, it is worth knowing about in an under-served area".
